Echinacea simulata occurs in glades and open woods in Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and possibly elsewhere. All material east of the Mississippi once designated "Echinacea pallida" is now believed to be Echinacea simulata, which was not recognized as a separate species until 1968.
