Used in folk medicine as a wash over entire body to make childbirth easier. Also a diuretic and pectoral. Used as a dye plant, yielding a red dye. In Denmark used to make an alcoholic drink known as bjaesk. The first six images are in the extraordinary setting of Mala Lukavica in the Morace Mountains in the center of Montenegro.
