Spearmint essential oil is characterized by a high content of carvone (sixty-seven to eighty percent) with lesser amounts of pulegone, limonene, menthone, menthol, cineol, and many other compounds. The oil is extensively used for flavoring toothpaste, mouthwash, chewing-gums and candy. These images are of commercial spearmint oil production in northern Indiana.
