Images of various scenes of United Society of Shaker's Herb Department, Sabbathday Lake, Maine, where I worked from 1974-1978. These are among my first photographs, mostly representing workspaces in the Herb Department, which has been in continuous operation in one form or another from 1799 to today. Products included herbal teas and culinary herbs in tins, rose water, and an a potpourri from an 1850s recipe of Eldess Hester Ann Adams. Click on thumbnail for larger view.
