Sorbus aucuparia, Mountain Ash, Rowan a sacred tree of Druid traditions and other ancient belief systems in Europe has a reputation of being protective against evil forces. The berries were eaten as a tonic food and fermented to make alcoholic drinks. It is one of the most important trees in European mythology since ancient times. The acid fruits were made into an infusion and used as a gargle for sore throats and inflamed tonsils.
